Brembo Gran Turismo Brake Systems
Ultra High Performance
Brembo Gran Turismo Brake System packages were developed to offer
race-inspired braking components that are endowed with several significant
advantages over a vehicle’s original braking system to provide superior
braking time after time. They are for drivers who want to make a statement
by substantially improving the looks and performance of their vehicle’s
braking system. While they are available for sports cars, sporty coupes,
sedans, light trucks and SUVs, in most cases the Gran Turismo Brake
System’s massive aluminum calipers and large diameter brake discs
require the use of aftermarket wheels with the necessary brake clearance.
The wheel fitment specialists at The Tire Rack have developed a list
of appropriate wheel options per vehicle based on the exact brake
kit chosen. This information, designed to make your purchase of Gran
Turismo Brake Systems easier and to ensure product compatibility,
is available by speaking to any member of our sales team. Brembo Gran
Turismo Systems provide excellent stopping power in everyday traffic,
as well as superior high performance street and track driving. They
are designed to bolt onto the vehicle’s original suspension, and are
fully compatible with the vehicle’s stock brake master cylinder and
anti-lock braking system (ABS). While most Brembo Gran Turismo Brake
System packages have been developed specifically to replace the vehicle’s
front brakes (due to the high braking demands encountered there),
rear brake systems are also offered for selected applications. For
vehicles not offering a Gran Turismo System for the rear axle, Brembo
Sport brake rotors (slotted or drilled) are available to replace the
stock rotors on the rear axle and provide a matched appearance on
all four corners of the vehicle. Gran Turismo Brake Systems packages
combine high performance fixed aluminum brake calipers, large diameter
1- or 2-piece vented brake rotors, brake pads, stainless steel braided
brake lines and aircraft quality mounting brackets and hardware. (See
photo and chart below.) Brake caliper and rotor sizes are selected
based on the vehicle’s requirements. In most cases, the aluminum calipers
are available in red, sliver or black finishes. Additionally, the
rotors feature plain, drilled, slotted, or drilled & slotted disc
surfaces depending on the vehicle application and brake system selected.
All cross-drilled holes are bi-angle chamfered at the rotor’s outer
surfaces to help reduce the cracking caused by repeated, high stress,
high temperature brake applications. Gran Turismo brake discs are
coated for corrosion resistance to help eliminate rust and to offer
a bold, aggressive appearance to enhance the look of the vehicle’s
road wheels. Applications using the 2-piece brake rotors combine specific,
machined billet aluminum hats with a large diameter vented brake disc.
The manner in which these two pieces are bolted together results in
a "floating disc" which reduces heat related stress, and improves
brake performance and pedal feel. Brembo Gran Turismo Brake Systems
packages are designed to meet the challenges of high performance street
and track driving while adding an authentic, race-ready look. They
are sold in axle pairs. Brake rotors are wear items and as such, should
also be inspected regularly and replaced as necessary. Rotors should
be replaced when their “Worn Rotor Minimum Thickness” (expressed in
millimeters) has reached the prescribed limit engraved on the edge
of the brake disc.
